THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE WORLD

Sheela Kalchuri Fenster

Whenever Eruch (or any of the mandali) was interpreting for Baba, it didn't seem as if Eruch was speaking — it seemed like Baba himself was talking. The words sounded echo-like, as if Eruch were using a microphone. His voice permeated the hall. My gaze was continuously on Baba, and his words went straight into my heart.

Strangely, when Baba left and Eruch said something to us, his voice sounded normal again. Or if Eruch or another mandali member said something themselves, in between Baba's statements, it sounded normal. For instance, if Eruch or my father added something on their own to what Baba was telling us, we could sense it wasn't from Baba. And Eruch would be made to speak out Baba's gestures, "Eruch, I didn't say that ..."

I often thought, "If this is the effect Baba's words have when spoken through the mandali, what must it be like to hear Baba's voice when he breaks his silence? Something wonderful and so powerful. It will echo throughout the whole world."
